Rebecca Kagya Bosompem
Co-Founder of Little Pumpkins Montessori
Little Pumpkins Montessori started on March 3, 2013 with three children. It started with 2 rooms: one as a classroom and the other as office.
The reasons for establishing Little Pumpkins Montessori were; firstly, to have a Grade A school in Adenta/Frafraha Community to prevent parents from traveling beyond for “good school” and secondly, to give back by providing employment to the people in the community.
We offer one of the best Montessori programmes in the city of Accra. Our able teachers, are well trained to give the best care to the children. Our population is over 140 which is made up of pupils and teachers.
We are located on the Adenta-Dodowa road and opposite the PUMA Fuel Station. Little Pumpkins Montessori is about a minute walk from Regalo International Academy.

Little Pumpkins Montessori offers learners an exciting educational journey from 6 months to 5 years. Our hybrid curriculum of Montessori and Cambridge focuses on the child’s development and connects them with the world and people around them.
Our engaging classroom resources and fun learning, offer learners the platform to access quality education.
Our teaching and learning approach is child-centered, play-based and focuses on building learning skills and moral values in key developmental areas of a child.
Our curriculum covers eight (8) key areas which includes; phonics, numeracy, literacy, practical life, sensorial, expressive arts and design, natural science and understanding the world.
Our Curriculum
Understanding the world
The curriculum for this subject focuses on people, communities, the world and technology. Finding out about the world around them is what our young learners do effectively. They do this by touching, pressing, holding, clumping and jumping.
Expressive Art and Design
Our scheme of activities awaken a child’s imaginative abilities and creativity in their play and learning. Our curriculum develops a learners artistic and cultural awareness. We give learners the necessary support to enable them explore with access to a wide range of materials and media.
Sensorial
Our sensorial activities are aimed at teaching learners to refine their sense of sight, touch, sound, smell and taste. These areas of concentration enable learners to organise their sensory impressions and their understanding of their world. The teaching and learning materials helps learners to learn about similarities, differences, shapes, colour, smell, taste and sound.
Our sensorial activities prepare children for mathematics and language skills by embedding in them the art of classification and sorting.
Phonics
Our phonics program is a comprehensive blend of Cambridge and Jolly phonics methods that get children reading and writing from an early stage. We teach letter names with their sounds. The skills are employed in fusing the two programs together; i.e. learning to write the letter names and sound, how to identify the sound and letters, how to blend the letters and sounds for reading, and how identify the sounds in words for spelling and writing.
In addition to the above, learners learn about tricky words, as well as the introduction to diagraphs and their alternatives. These form the foundation of our phonic lessons.
Practical life
Our practical life incorporates exercises and activities that learners observe in their daily lives. Learners are taken through exercises in carrying, sweeping, washing and many more. These activities develop learners independence, concentration and the five motor skills.
Literacy
Our literacy curriculum provides children with the knowledge and skills to build their vocabulary and understanding skills. The skills require reading and comprehension, oral expression, picture reading, interpretation of language, grammar skills are developed through hand –on language materials and digital resources.
Numeracy
Our numeracy curriculum teaches children to understand abstract concepts and relationship through hands-on-learning experiences. Learners learn to write, count, identify and match numerals to their quantities; they sort objects by their colours, sizes and shapes. They learn the relationships between skip count forward and additions and backward count and subtraction, the concepts of doubling and multiplication. These lessons are accompanied by suitable learning materials such as sand paper numbers, sand tray, spindle box, sequin-boards, number cards, chats, number balls, counters and many more.
